Wallpaper Wednesday – Extreme Closeup Edition

A sexy tail light. A badass wheel. Perhaps it’s even just the little glass louvres on the engine cover. Most cars have awesome little design details that make them a little special. This week’s Wallpaper Wednesday selection showcases some awesome closeups of a few cars that have some great design details, along with a few just-plain-cool macro shots of iconic badges. Hopefully one can find a home on your desktop.

What’s your favourite detail on your car? Or details other cars you like? Let us know on Twitter] or Facebook.

Wallpaper Wednesday: Winter Warmers edition

Since it’s getting a bit colder, here in Johannesburg (where all of the ZA Car Show team is based), we figured it only made sense to have a winter-themed Wallpaper Wednesday. And since snow is the most obvious visual component of winter, we’ve gone and selected a few of the web’s photographers’ finest snowy photos.

We’ve got it all: from rally cars drifting in the  white stuff, to yellow Volvos just parked on it. No doubt, this selection is bound to have a winter warmer that’ll make your desktop a bit more exciting.

Just click to enlarge, and drag the photo to your desktop to save it.

It’s an insightful week in the ZACS studios with Patrick Gearing and Trevor van de Ven running the show. From some special one-off cars, the duo – well, maybe just Patrick – also give you a good history lesson in exotic cars and badging and also update on the recently launched Nissan Micra, Bentley Continental Supersports SSR, and  review the Honda CRV 2.4 Auto Executive.

In this episode the show covers:

Roadsters - good for a bit of sailing too.

Lamborghini’s super-expensive supercar, the Siesto Elemento. There are only 20 and they will cost 20 million Euro a piece. [via Autoblog]

Very very pretty, but oh so very expensive.

Not bad for a Dodge Viper

A huge car, but it looks better and better each time we see one. Click on the for a wallpaper gallery of the Porsche Panamera

The Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible ISR is one very fast, very bold and pimping Bentley which is…very un-Bentley-like.

For its price it is the only entirely new car in its class. Not a rebadged old model

Video of the day: Porsche 911 GT3 RS vs. BMW S1000RR

Video of the day: Porsche 911 GT3 RS vs. BMW S1000RR

Here’s one for both petrolhead camps. For the bike fans, this video’s got BMW’s blisteringly faster S1000RR – the most powerful 1000cc road bike in the world. It goes up against Porsche’s ultimate road-going track machine, the GT3 RS.

Now, we know that going sideways isn’t the fastest way around the track but we’ll be damned if it doesn’t look good. It looks like the driver of the orange Beetle in this video is having a ball of a time, while the BMW’s pilot is really brave to even be around the slidey tail-end of the Porsche.

Video of the day: RUF on the ‘Ring

Video of the day: RUF on the ‘Ring

Back in the day, when sex was safe and motorsport was dangerous, people could get away with things like this. As testament to how old this video is: it features a Nürburgring free of any trackside trees, and it was dubbed from a super VHS videotape. It also features a man, taking a Sunday drive in his RUF Yellowbird.

The person who linked this video said it the best: “Loafers + violently shaking wheel back and forth = lap of ‘ring.”
