Lamborghini’s latest ultra-mad all-about-the-numbers hypercar is a real hit. Despite a name we’ve poked fun at, it really is a mad piece of design – the way supercars should be. It’s also the car that was requested by ZA Car Show Twitter fan matt_stretch91, who qualified his request with “most insane tail pipes you’ll see in a while!”. We agree. In ZACS 134, John, Patrick and Christo discuss the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show - each picking their personal highlights from the many awesome vehicle on display.

Christo backs Germany and picks three not quite road-legal cars; Patrick chooses three Italians; and John tips his hat to three English arrivals. To make sure all bases are covered, our intrepid trio also selected some “pity cars” – vehicles that are noteworthy, but didn’t quite fall into their “we want one now” criteria.

Sometimes the selection of colours from a manufacturer doesn’t quite cut it. If it’s not bland, it’s just not crazy enough. Since those who love cars see their vehicles as an expression of themselves, it only makes sense for them to be a little custom…

We’re not talking about “Fast and Furious” levels of insanity, here. Just a nice paintjob, or vinyl wrap for those who don’t have the balls to permanently drive around in a pink Bentley. Today’s selection of wallpapers shows off some of the eye-catching finishes on some exotics and a few limited-availability paint options on some other cars. Sometimes a car has to bare it all for us to see what really makes it so appealing. That machine under the bonnet (or bootlid, in Porsche’s case) can be responsible for stomach-churning acceleration, hair-raising wails and many joyous victories. And sometimes – just sometimes – they can also be pretty spectacular to behold.

So here’s to the internal combustion engine. May its many thousands of explosions per second continue delivering thrills for the next few decades.

There’s that old tradition of letting ladies enter a room first. It’s been suggested that this is to get a better view of the lady’s derriere, but that sounds like a nice way to fast track yourself to a sexual harassment lawsuit.

When it comes to cars, though, we don’t mind waving them past SPECIFICALLY to get a glimpse of some sexy lines. Perhaps even gawp at the tailpipe arrangement, and turn down the windows in the hopes of catching some sweet, sweet music. And that is what inspired today’s Wallpaper Wednesday: beautiful buttes, of the automotive variety. That keeps things both work-safe, right?

A sexy tail light. A badass wheel. Perhaps it’s even just the little glass louvres on the engine cover. Most cars have awesome little design details that make them a little special. This week we thought it would be prudent to pay attention to important developments in the motoring world. Green motoring is all about saving fuel, energy efficiency and low carbon emissions. Lamborghini has it all. Their cars are not from this planet, and then get named after mad bulls. They sound like a choir of devils having their tails stamped on. And they get tuned to perfection by guys with awesome names: Lamborghini’s current test driver is named Max Venturi, and he took over reigns from the respected Valentino Balboni.

Today’s video is about Balboni. When US TV network CBS made a 1987 documentary about Lamborghini, the show’s host went to Italy and got a ride to remember from Valentino. Not content with just showing him the Countach’s capabilities on the track, because “our cars are built for the road”, Mr. Balboni goes ahead and flies down a two-lane country backroad at 290km/h.  Because that’s how he rolls.
